Looking and talking more like an aging hippie than an ex-FBI attorney, Coleen Rowley “called the Iraq war ‘a quagmire’ with ‘many parallels to Vietnam’” (Greg Gordon, Minneapolis StarTribune, August 18, 2005).  Rowley, you will recall, is running as a Democrat for the United States Senate in a conservative district in Minnesota.  She also is joining Cindy Sheehan in her antiwar protest in Crawford Texas.  While this may sound like a strange campaign strategy, it tells us a great deal about Ms. Rowley.  As we have all told our children, we are judged by the company we keep.  Cindy Sheehan is very bad company.

According to the Drudge Report (August 17, 2005), on April 27, 2005, Cindy Sheehan said the following during a rally at San Francisco State University:

"We are not waging a war on terror in this country. We’re waging a war of terror. The biggest terrorist in the world is George W. Bush!…We are waging a nuclear war in Iraq right now. That country is contaminated. It will be contaminated for practically eternity now."

According to Drudge, Sheehan added the following regarding the Bush Administration:

"They’re a bunch of f---ing hypocrites! And we need to, we just need to rise up...If George Bush believes his rhetoric and his bullsh--, that this is a war for freedom and democracy, that he is spreading freedom and democracy, does he think every person he kills makes Iraq more free?  The whole world is damaged. Our humanity is damaged. If he thinks that it’s so important for Iraq to have a U.S.-imposed sense of freedom and democracy, then he needs to sign up his two little party-animal girls. They need to go to this war….We want our country back and, if we have to impeach everybody from George Bush down to the person who picks up dog sh-t in Washington, we will impeach all those people." (Expletives deleted by this author.)

This is the woman with whom a Democrat senatorial candidate is going to hang out.  A foul mouthed woman who has no respect for the men and women who are fighting for America’s freedom.  A woman who is demeaning the work and memory of her son who died in Iraq.  A woman whose husband is divorcing her due to her behavior.  A woman who is being supported by the extreme left and who is serving as their tool to try to embarrass her son’s Commander-in-Chief.  A woman who cannot differentiate a terrorist from a leader who is trying to help America protect itself.  Crowley is not my idea of a person I want to represent me in the Senate.

But, Rowley is correct in one way.  She states that the war in Iraq has many parallels to the war in Vietnam.  She is right.  In both cases brave Americans served their country in order to defeat an enemy.  In both cases the far left carried out acts of treason that eventually weakened American will.  During the Vietnam War, those acts led to a politicizing of the war, a lack of military resolve, and the unnecessary deaths of thousands of Americans and Southeast Asians.  Those same leftists and their offspring are trying to do the same today.  They are beginning to succeed.

Sheehan said that she wants her country back.  Unfortunately, she and her leftist friends are taking America away from real Americans who want the best for our nation and our children.  We have to stop them before it is too late.
