First of all, beware.

When a political party attacks radio hosts, that party is hiding something.  When that party declares war on radio hosts, that party is in serious trouble.

When columnists define the sides in a battle and then call for moderation, danger lies ahead.  David Brooks proclaimed recently that we are at a point in time when President Obama is on the left and Rush Limbaugh is on the right.  We know that President Obama is the leader of the National Socialist (sorry, the Democrat Party).  In effect, Brooks is telling America that Limbaugh is now the leader of the Republican Party.  Obviously, the truth is that Limbaugh is not an elected or appointed leader of any party.  The fact that Brooks points him out as such highlights an important fact.  The Republican Party has no elected or appointed leader.  (Michael Steele has a lot of work to do to actually own leadership of his party).

Much more importantly, Brooks’ call for moderation is extremely “concerning”.  It highlights the fact that Brooks is really a VERY moderate conservative.  That means he is NOT a conservative.

When, during the past eight years, did Democrats call for moderation from the left in their continuous attack on President Bush?  President Bush was the most liberal Republican I can recall.  Think about immigration.  Think about the bail-out of failed financial institutions (with the eventual result being the nationalization of banking in America).  But not one Democrat ever talked about moderation in their constant attacks on President Bush as a President and as a person.

Still, Brooks calls for moderation.  He believes this is the time for Republicans to move toward the middle.  THAT, Mr. Brooks, is what lost the election for Republicans in 2008.  THAT is why Senator McCain got his butt handed to him in an election against a light weight Democrat…a Democrat far weaker in a practical sense than Gore or Kerry.  The Republicans lost because they tried to be centrist.  They lost because they alienated their core constituency.

In contrast to David Brooks, I believe that this the time for Republicans to stand up and embrace their base.  That base is focused on ethics, values, and most importantly, the First Principles of the United States Constitution.  We are in the middle of a political and cultural war.  There IS no middle ground.  This is the time for America to finally answer the question…the fundamental question…are we going to become a socialist nation?…a communist nation?…a liberal fascist nation?…with the “collective” being the primary concern?  Or are we going to remain a Republic based on a capitalist economic model with individual rights as the most important tenet?

Once we decide as a nation what we are to be…only then can we think about some theoretical middle ground.  Only then can we talk about where both sides can meet.  But first of all, we have to recognize that there are clearly two very different and very distinctive sides in this war.

Let’s work on that.  Let’s resolve the course of our nation for the next generation.

Because, right now it is getting serious!
